Sunday October 31, 2004 As I said an entry or two ago, I love scary movies, and Halloween is a great time of the year for horror movie fans like myself. They're on every channel virtually all day and all night. Or at least they should be. The last few years have been lackluster. Networks haven't been especially keen on putting on horror movies around late October, particularly last year. There was nothing on! This year, on the other hand, there's too much to keep up with. It's great! AMC brought back Monsterfest (8 straight days and nights of nothing but horror movies), and everyone else has followed suit. They haven't done as much as AMC, but their effort has been recognized. Yesterday, FX had a 13-hour scary movie marathon and USA and TNT, just to name a few networks, have put on their share of scary movies as well. Even the Disney channel and the Family channel have gotten in on the act. If I remember correctly, I saw Poltergeist on one of them a night or two ago. That's damn good for a kid's channel. That hasn't been the norm for them, though, which is understandable considering their target audience. It's been mostly made-for-TV "scary" movies and stuff like Hocus Pocus. I've never wished I had a TiVo more in my life. It seems like there's a movie on every channel that I want to watch. Halloween II is on the Sci-Fi channel as I type this, which is followed by Halloween II and the first Halloween is on USA in just a few hours. I also missed Salem's Lot early this morning. It was the old one, too, which is the one I like. After last year's extremely poor showing, every network seems to have gone above and beyond this year. I've thoroughly enjoyed it and am already sad to see it go, even though today is Halloween and it is the scary movie climax that should have me absolutely giddy. You've collectively raised the bar this year, networks. Please keep it up. Oh, and happy Halloween! |
