Wednesday November 03, 2004 Well, the election is over. We lost. Again. It smarts, but not near as bad as last time when we actually didn't lose to George W. Bush and it was the Supreme Court that put him in office (he actually lost the popular vote). I can't really say that I'm surprised. When I looked at John Kerry, for the life of me I couldn't imagine him as our President. His wife too. I couldn't imagine her as the first lady. It was her accent. She didn't sound like what a typical U.S.-born woman should sound like. Maybe she isn't a U.S.-born citizen. That would just make it harder to get her in the White House as the first lady. He just didn't look "American" enough, and she didn't sound "American" enough. It's tough to think that some people would base their decisions on looks and accents, but it happens. Sadly, it happens. Overall, I just thought John Kerry was a terrible candidate. To be quite honest, I think you have to be the crappiest candidate the Democratic party could find to lose to who he lost to. George W. Bush proved to be a screw-up on everything from our economy to our foreign policy and Kerry couldn't unseat him. With the way George W. Bush has tarnished the United States' standing around the world and widened the gap between the rich and the poor at home, rolling over him on the way to the White House would be a cakewalk to any halfway decent politician. I don't think it has quite sunk in yet. Stuck with him for four more years... I want to move to Canada... Maybe I'm a product of the slanted news I read (admittedly I read left-leaning news on a daily basis), but I think they were fooled by this guy. I'm just crushed and disappointed in the American people for voting to re-elect him. How can they support him? He sent us to war under false pretenses. He gave tax cuts to the rich. He just recently passed a sweeping $136 billion corporate tax cut. And what has he done for the average Joe? Given them a few hundred bucks back on a tax cut?
I just don't understand how
someone with virtually no experience in politics can "win" the Presidency,
systematically fail, and get re-elected. We're fucking stupid! |
